About
1. Portrait
We’re the Linux & Infrastructure Services (LNI) team at Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH).
We designed, built and maintain the Science DMZ – a separate but highly integrated infrastructure exclusively for the needs of teaching, research and development (LFE):
multi-terabit, completely IPv6-based Software Defined Network (SDN) fabrics based on Arista switches with Ansible and AVD for configuration management
multi-petabyte, high-performance and low-latency Software Defined Storage (SDS) based on Supermicro servers with Debian and Ceph
thousands of processors with many terabytes of memory for self-serviced Linux-Containers (systemd-nspawn on Debian) optimized for High Performance Computing (HPC) and GPU Computing
When we’re not busy supporting our users, we work continuously on improving to…
run the two datacenters in Bern and one in Biel
run the main network (WAN, LAN, and WLAN) covering 40+ locations within the Canton of Bern
run all core services based on Linux with Free and open-source software
run lots of small to large Linux-based business applications such as Nextcloud on our completely automated and container-based Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) enviroment
We’re positive thinking, love feedback (no NIH) and are commited to do things right. We speak Python, insist on open technology for reason (no vendoring) and like anything that can be pushed into a Git repository :)
