SSH Gateway

What?
=====

+ `OpenSSH <http://www.openssh.org/>`_ (Secure Shell) is a program to log into another computer over a network, to execute commands in a remote computer, and to move files from one computer to another. It provides strong authentication and secure communications over insecure channels.

+ A Gateway is a computer in one network used to reach other computers in another network.

+ Most computers in the BFH internal network are behind a firewall and can not be accessed from the internet. Using a OpenSSH Gateway these computers can be accessed transparently from the internet.

Who?
====

+ A OpenSSH Gateway is maintained by the ITS Linux System Administration at :doc:`</servers/ssh.bfh.ch/index>`.

+ The OpenSSH Gateway can be used by anyone with a BFH account.

How?
====

+ Access to the OpenSSH Gateway is restricted to LDAP accounts with an OpenSSH key (RSA algorithm and 4096 bit length) only, see our :doc:`OpenSSH documentation </software/openssh/index>` for more information.

+ Users can submit their public key via the `Servicedesk <https://servicedesk.bfh.ch/>`_ for inclusion.
